Our Beverly Hills oculoplastic surgeon believes that micro-needling – when done in conjunction with certain other procedures – helps to stimulate the faster production of collagen and elastin — both of which are essential for firmer, smoother tissue.
But you may not be quite sure what micro-needling is or if it’s right for you. Let’s address some common questions that patients have.
What is Micro-Needling?
During micro-needling, we use a group of very fine, sterile needles to gently puncture the outer layer of your skin. It creates tiny wounds in the skin, breaking down old scar tissue and causing the body to produce new layers of elastin fibers and collagen.
What are the Benefits of Micro-Needling?
One to two weeks following your procedure you will notice smoother, more radiant skin. Micro-needling also minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. It even regenerates tissue and reduces the size of pores. Optimal results will be noticed after a few months.
Is it Painful?
It sounds more uncomfortable than it really is. Most patients discover that this process isn’t painful and only causes minimal discomfort, if any. We do have a topical anesthetic that we can place on the skin prior to the procedure if necessary.
What Can I Expect After a Micro-Needling Procedure?
Redness and mild swelling are to be expected for up to 48 hours after treatment. A small amount of bleeding and/or bruising is not uncommon.
