Juvéderm® Vollure® XC
Smile lines and marionette lines tend to deepen gradually, until one day they seem to set the tone for the whole face. Juvéderm® Vollure® XC is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to soften these moderate to severe folds while letting the face move naturally with every expression. Patients visit the Beverly Hills office from West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Century City, Brentwood, and across Los Angeles for Vollure treatment planned around their own facial structure.
Dr. Kami Parsa is an oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon whose lectures on eyelid and midface surgery include Treatment of Malar Mounds and Festoons, a topic rooted in how the cheek supports the tissue around it. That perspective shapes how he approaches smile lines, because a deep fold is often a sign of change higher in the midface rather than a problem in the fold alone. He completed his fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and has lectured nationally and internationally for The Aesthetic Society. He also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
“A deep smile line is usually telling you something about the midface above it. I look at the whole face first, then decide how much filler the fold itself really needs.” — Dr. Kami Parsa
What Is Juvéderm Vollure XC?
Vollure XC is part of the Juvéderm® collection of hyaluronic acid fillers. The FDA approved it in 2017 for injection into the mid to deep layers of the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds, in adults over 21. It is made with Vycross® technology, which gives the gel a smooth, flexible consistency suited to areas that move constantly, and it contains lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.
Vollure is one of the longer lasting fillers for wrinkles and folds, with results that can last up to 18 months with optimal treatment. Like all hyaluronic acid fillers, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. Use of Vollure outside its approved indication is considered off-label, and your injector will explain which uses are approved during your consultation.
How Vollure Compares With Other Juvéderm Fillers
Each Juvéderm product is designed for a specific purpose, so the right choice depends on the area being treated and the result you want.
- Vollure XC: Softens moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines, with results lasting up to 18 months.
- Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC: Also treats wrinkles and folds, with results lasting up to about 12 months.
- Volbella® XC: A softer gel approved for the lips, lines around the mouth, and under-eye hollows.
- Voluma® XC: A firmer gel approved to restore volume in the cheeks, chin, and temples.
When smile lines come mostly from volume loss in the cheeks, restoring support with Voluma may soften the fold more naturally than filling the line alone. Many treatment plans use both products together, and you can compare all options on the Types of Dermal Fillers page.
Is Vollure Right for You?
Vollure may be a good fit for adults who:
- Have moderate to deep smile lines or marionette lines
- Want smoother folds without surgery
- Prefer a gradual, natural change over a dramatic one
- Are in good general health and have realistic expectations
Vollure may not be appropriate if you have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, an allergy to lidocaine or to the bacterial proteins used to make hyaluronic acid, a bleeding disorder, or an active infection, cold sore, or skin inflammation in the treatment area. Its safety has not been established during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Share your full medical history, including blood thinners and supplements, before treatment.
What to Expect During Vollure Treatment
Your visit begins with a consultation with Dr. Parsa or licensed members of his clinical team. They review your medical history, assess the folds along with the cheeks and midface, and explain how much product is likely needed. The injection itself usually takes less than 30 minutes, using a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area.
Results are visible right away and settle over about two weeks as any swelling fades. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites is common and usually resolves within one to two weeks. Most patients return to normal activities the same day, though it helps to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extended sun or heat exposure for about 24 hours. A follow-up visit lets your injector check the result and add a small touch-up if needed.
Risks and When to Seek Care
Most side effects of Vollure are mild and temporary, including swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, firmness, and small lumps. Less common risks include infection, delayed swelling, and nodules that may need treatment. Rarely, filler can enter a blood vessel and block blood flow, which can damage the skin and, in very rare cases, cause vision loss or stroke.
Call the office right away and seek emergency care if you notice vision changes, severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, blotchy, or dusky after treatment.
Why Choose Dr. Parsa for Vollure in Beverly Hills
- Whole-Face Assessment: Every Vollure plan starts by looking at the cheeks and midface, not only the fold, so the result stays balanced.
- Surgical Perspective: Because Dr. Parsa also performs cheek lift and facial fat grafting, he can recognize when a fold needs more than filler.
- Matched Product Selection: Access to the wider Juvéderm and Restylane families means the filler is chosen for the area rather than the other way around.
- Reversible Filler Choice: Vollure can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which adds a layer of safety and flexibility.
- Conservative Philosophy: Treatment favors gradual, measured correction that keeps your expressions natural.
