Restylane® Refyne Injections in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles
Smile lines and marionette lines can make a face look tired even when you feel energetic and well. Restylane® Refyne is a soft, flexible hyaluronic acid filler that softens moderate lines around the mouth while letting you smile, laugh, and speak naturally. Patients from West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and across Los Angeles visit Dr. Kami Parsa’s Beverly Hills office for dermal filler treatment that keeps expression intact.
The most common filler mistake is not a lack of filler but too much of it, and Dr. Parsa lectures on exactly that problem. His lecture on the overfilled face covers how facial proportions shift when filler accumulates over years of treatment and how to restore a natural balance. As an oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon who serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, he teaches a conservative, anatomy-first approach to injectables. That philosophy guides how much Restylane® Refyne he recommends and where it is placed.
“Smile lines are part of a face that has lived. My goal with Refyne is to soften them so you look rested, not to erase them so you look different.” — Dr. Kami Parsa
What Is Restylane® Refyne?
Restylane® Refyne is a hyaluronic acid filler made by Galderma with its XpresHAn Technology™, a manufacturing process designed to create a soft, flexible gel that moves with facial expression. It contains lidocaine for comfort and can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed.
The FDA approved Restylane® Refyne in 2016 for mid-to-deep injection to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines (nasolabial folds), in adults over 21. Use in other areas is off-label, and Dr. Parsa will explain whether a proposed use is approved or off-label.
Restylane® Refyne Versus Restylane® Defyne
Refyne and Restylane® Defyne share the same technology, but Refyne is softer and more flexible. It suits moderate lines, thinner skin, and patients who want a light correction. Defyne is firmer and is used for deeper folds and chin support.
Is Restylane® Refyne Right for You?
Restylane® Refyne may be a good fit if you:
- Have moderate smile lines or marionette lines
- Want a subtle result that moves naturally with your expressions
- Are new to fillers and prefer to start conservatively
It is not appropriate if you have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, an allergy to lidocaine or the proteins used in making the gel, a bleeding disorder, or an active skin infection in the treatment area. It is also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If your lines come mainly from cheek volume loss or loose skin, Dr. Parsa may recommend treating those causes instead of, or along with, the lines themselves.
Your Treatment and Recovery
Your visit begins with a consultation in which Dr. Parsa or licensed members of his clinical team evaluate your facial structure, skin, and goals. Treatment usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and a topical numbing cream can be applied for added comfort.
Results are visible right away and continue to settle over the first one to two weeks as swelling fades. Most patients return to normal activities the same day and avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and pressure on the area for about 24 hours. Results typically last about 9 to 12 months, depending on your metabolism and the area treated. Many patients combine Restylane® Refyne with BOTOX® or laser skin resurfacing as part of a broader plan.
Risks and When to Seek Care
Common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, and small bumps that usually resolve within one to two weeks. A rare but serious risk is accidental injection into or compression of a blood vessel, which can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. Call the office right away and seek emergency care if you notice vision changes, severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, blotchy, or dusky after treatment.
