Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Lines at the corners of the eyes, across the forehead, and between the brows are often the first signs of aging people notice, and they can make a rested face look tired or stern. Not every line has the same cause, and the treatment that softens a crow’s foot will do little for a crease etched into sun damaged skin. Patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Brentwood, and across Los Angeles come to Parsa M.D. for an evaluation that sorts out which lines come from movement, which come from lost collagen, and which come from volume or structure underneath.
Lines around the eyes and forehead are where Dr. Kami Parsa’s specialty and the medical spa overlap most. An oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than 20 years of clinical experience, he has lectured nationally for The Aesthetic Society, and his lecture topics include Applied Periocular Anatomy, covering how the brow, eyelids, and surrounding muscles work together to create expression lines. He completed his ophthalmology residency at USC’s Doheny Eye Institute before his fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
“Forehead lines are sometimes the brow working overtime to hold up heavy eyelids. If you relax those muscles without recognizing that, the brows drop and the eyes look more tired. I look at the whole upper face before I treat a single line.” — Dr. Kami Parsa
What Causes Fine Lines and Wrinkles?
Wrinkles form when the skin loses its ability to spring back, and several factors drive that change:
- Repeated expression: Smiling, squinting, and frowning fold the skin in the same places thousands of times, creating dynamic lines that first appear with movement.
- Collagen and elastin loss: Beginning in early adulthood, the skin makes less collagen each year, so lines that once disappeared at rest begin to stay.
- Sun exposure: Ultraviolet light breaks down collagen and is the leading external cause of premature wrinkling, explored further on our Sun Damage page.
- Volume loss: As fat and bone in the face diminish, the skin has less support and folds more deeply, a topic covered on our Volume Loss page.
- Smoking, dryness, and rapid weight change: These accelerate skin aging and make fine texture more visible.
Dynamic Lines Versus Static Wrinkles
The most useful distinction in treatment planning is whether a line appears only with movement or is present at rest. Dynamic lines, such as crow’s feet when smiling, respond well to neurotoxins that relax the muscle underneath. Static wrinkles are visible even when the face is still and usually need treatments that rebuild collagen, resurface the skin, or add support, often alongside a neurotoxin. Around the eyes, the evaluation also checks for heavy eyelids, a drooping brow, or lower eyelid laxity, since these can mimic or worsen lines and may be better addressed with Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty, a Brow Lift, or Ptosis Repair.
Treatment Options for Fine Lines and Wrinkles in Beverly Hills
Treatments are performed by Dr. Parsa or licensed members of his clinical team, described on our Our Providers page. Each linked page explains approvals, results, and recovery in detail.
- Neurotoxins for expression lines: BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin relax the muscles that create frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, with results that typically last three to four months.
- Fillers for creases and folds: Restylane® Refyne, Vollure, and Volbella soften static folds and fine lines around the mouth.
- Resurfacing for texture and etched lines: CO2 Skin Resurfacing, Clear + Brilliant, and chemical peels remove damaged surface skin and stimulate new collagen.
- Collagen stimulation: Morpheus8, Microneedling, and the Duplex® Procedure improve skin quality over a series of treatments.
Neurotoxin results appear within days, while collagen building treatments improve the skin gradually over three to six months. Daily sunscreen and a consistent skincare routine help protect what treatment achieves. Wrinkles can be softened considerably, but no treatment stops the aging process, and most patients maintain results with periodic touch ups.
Risks and When to Seek Care
Bruising, swelling, and redness are common after injections and resurfacing and usually resolve within days. Neurotoxins can occasionally cause a temporary heavy brow or eyelid droop, and all neurotoxins carry an FDA boxed warning about the rare spread of effect beyond the injection site. Seek emergency care if you develop difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing after a neurotoxin. After filler, call the office right away and seek emergency care if you notice vision changes, severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, blotchy, or dusky. After resurfacing, contact the office for blistering, signs of infection, or any change in vision after treatment near the eyes.

- Physician Educator: Through Core Aesthetics, which he founded, he trains other physicians in advanced aesthetic and oculoplastic techniques.
