Juvéderm® Ultra and Ultra Plus in Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles
Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC are two hyaluronic acid fillers from the same family, one soft enough for the lips and one firmer for deeper folds around the nose and mouth. Used together or separately, they restore volume to the lower face in a way that still moves naturally when you speak and smile. Patients from West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Century City visit Dr. Kami Parsa’s Beverly Hills office for dermal filler treatment planned around facial balance.
The lips and mouth are among the most expressive parts of the face, and Dr. Parsa’s reconstructive work gives him a close understanding of facial symmetry. As an oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon, he treats patients with facial paralysis, where restoring balance between the two sides of the face is the central goal. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has more than 20 years of clinical experience in Beverly Hills. That background shapes how he evaluates lip shape, smile symmetry, and fold depth before any filler is placed.
“Lips should look like they belong to the face they are on. I look at the smile, the teeth, and the proportions of the whole face before deciding how much volume makes sense.” — Dr. Kami Parsa
Juvéderm® Ultra XC Versus Ultra Plus XC
Both products are made by Allergan Aesthetics, contain lidocaine for comfort, and can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. The difference is firmness and where each is approved for use in adults over 21.
- Juvéderm® Ultra XC: A softer gel that is FDA-approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds and for lip augmentation and lines around the mouth. It suits patients who want natural-looking lip volume or softer lines.
- Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC: A firmer gel that is FDA-approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines. It is suited to deeper folds that need more support.
Using either product in other areas, such as the chin or jawline, is off-label. For lip enhancement with an even softer gel, Volbella® is another option, and for chin and cheek structure, Voluma® is approved for those areas.
Is Juvéderm® Ultra or Ultra Plus Right for You?
These fillers may be a good fit if you have:
- Naturally thin lips or lips that have lost volume with age
- Vertical lines above the upper lip
- Moderate to deep smile lines or marionette lines
They are not appropriate if you have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, an allergy to lidocaine or the proteins used in making the gel, or an active infection such as a cold sore in the treatment area. If you have a history of cold sores, your provider may recommend preventive medication before lip treatment. These fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Your Treatment and Recovery
Your visit begins with a consultation in which Dr. Parsa or licensed members of his clinical team evaluate your facial proportions, lips, and folds. Treatment usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. Results are visible right away, though the lips in particular can swell for several days, so the final result is easier to judge after about two weeks.
Most people return to normal activities the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and pressure on the area for about 24 hours. Results typically last up to about 12 months, and lips often need touch-ups sooner because they move constantly. Many patients pair these fillers with BOTOX® to soften expression lines. Risks and When to Seek Care
Common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, and small bumps, which usually resolve within one to two weeks. Lip treatment tends to cause more swelling than other areas. A rare but serious risk is accidental injection into or compression of a blood vessel, which can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. Call the office right away and seek emergency care if you notice vision changes, severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, blotchy, or dusky after treatment.
