Freckles: Love Them or Hate Them?
While the tendency to have freckles is genetic, getting them in the first place is a process that’s triggered by exposure to the sun. They’re more common on fair-skinned people whose skin does not produce enough melanin to protect them from the sun. As a result, dark pigmented spots known as freckles appear.
While some people may see freckles as cute or sexy, others may find them to be embarrassing and want to hide them.
If you’re unhappy with your freckles there are some good tips that can help you prevent them from becoming more prominent.
Wearing an SPF 30 sunscreen will prevent new freckles from forming. Get in the habit of wearing some year-round, even when it’s cloudy.
When outdoors, stay covered by wearing a hat, a shirt with long sleeves, and long pants.
Avoid the Sun
Avoid being out in the sun when it’s at its hottest, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seek shade during this time.
There are multiple treatments available that can help minimize the appearance of freckles. During your consultation, our Beverly Hills plastic surgeon can help you determine which is the best option for your particular needs.
A chemical peel can remove or significantly lighten unwanted freckles by removing surface skin layers.
Lumecca IPL Treatments
Lumecca is a powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) used to eliminate pigmented areas. Freckle reduction can be seen with as little as one treatment.
