Recovering from Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The time spent recovering from eyelid surgery in Beverly Hills is just as important as the procedure itself. Here’s some of what you can expect after having blepharoplasty, and certain tips to help you along through your recovery.
Initially After Eyelid Surgery
Immediately after your procedure you may experience some swelling, bruising, irritation, dry eyes, or discomfort. To help improve your comfort, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever, use a cold compress, and place an ointment over the area. Swelling and bruising can also be minimized laying on your back and elevating your head as much as possible. By the two-week mark, the majority of the bruising and swelling will have subsided.
In the first week, your eye will likely feel tired. Resting them will help tremendously, so napping is recommended.
Activities that can dry your eyes or strain them should be avoided. This includes reading, watching television, wearing contacts, or using a computer.
When outside, wear dark sunglasses to protect your eyes from being irritated by the wind and sun.
Within just 10 days, most people are back to work and resuming normal activities. Our Beverly Hills eye surgeon will let you know when you’re free to do as you wish. For the first three to four weeks after the surgery, you may be restricted to do any activities that increase blood flow to the eyes including bending, lifting, exercising, participating in sports, etc.
