What is the Difference Between a Forehead Lift and a Brow Lift?

Facial rejuvenation procedures have become increasingly popular, with forehead and brow lifts being two of the most sought-after treatments. Yes, they are two different surgeries, albeit easily mistaken as the same thing, especially since a forehead lift is sometimes called a “browlift.”
While both processes aim to improve the appearance of the upper face, there are some critical differences between a forehead lift and a brow lift (or lateral brow lift).
Forehead Lift
A forehead lift is a procedure that targets the forehead and eyebrows. The aim is to raise the forehead, reduce wrinkles and create a smoother, more youthful appearance above and to the sides of the eyes. The forehead lift can address various concerns, including:
- Droopy eyebrows
- Forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines
- Sagging forehead skin
- Excess forehead skin
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
A forehead lift is particularly effective at lifting and repositioning the eyebrows to a higher position, creating a more alert and vibrant aesthetic. This procedure also addresses deep wrinkles on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows (Crow’s feet), resulting in a more relaxed impression.
Brow Lift
A brow lift, or temporal lift, is a procedure that targets the eyebrows and the upper eyelids. The aim is to raise the eyebrows and eliminate wrinkles and sagging skin in the area surrounding the eyes. The brow lift can address various concerns, including:
- Sagging eyebrows
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Excess skin in the upper eyelids
- Droopy eyelids
A temporal lift targets the outer eyebrows and forehead, lifting and tightening the skin and muscles around the temples and outer eyebrows for a refreshed appearance. It focuses on a smaller area than the eyebrow lift, which raises the entire brow and forehead.
Furthermore, while a temporal lift can improve eyebrow symmetry and upper face contours with fewer incisions and tissue manipulation than an eyebrow lift, it may not be as effective at treating deep wrinkles or sagging skin in the middle of the forehead.
Which Procedure is Right for You?
Deciding which procedure is suitable for you depends on your needs and goals. For example, a forehead lift may be the best option if you have profound wrinkles and sagging skin in your forehead area. On the other hand, a brow lift may be the best option if you have sagging eyebrows and excess skin in your upper eyelids.
