Pre-Treatment Instructions for CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing Beverly Hills, CA

CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing Pre and Post Care Instructions

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • Patients must not be using incompatible medications such as anticoagulants or the use of Accutane within the last 12 months.
  • Patients with a history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) please notify our office prior to treatment for prophylactic medications.
  • Sun and UV lamp exposure should be avoided for one month prior to treatment for full face C02 , and for 2 weeks for C02 around the eye area.
  • Arrive on time for your laser treatment with clean skin. Avoid makeup and remove all facial hair in the treatment area.
  • Start taking Arnica the day before the procedure to help reduce swelling and healing time.
  • Please allow at least 1-2 hours for your appointment. There will be 30 to 60 minutes of numbing before the treatment begins depending on the area being treated.
  • Please note that if scheduled areas for treatment include chest, neck, or hands, the associated down-time (redness, tenderness, and swelling) will be longer. Expect at least 1 week of redness, discomfort and swelling.
  • Stainless steel ocular shields are inserted for safety measures when any area around the eyes are treated. Please remove contact lenses prior to your arrival. If needed, bring your eyeglasses.
  • Prepare your post-care soaks: 2 tsp of white vinegar in a quart of water (place in a pitcher in the fridge).
  • Bring a large hat with you to the visit.
  • If taking prescribed medications for pain or anxiety, bring them with you to your visit and you will take them once you are in the office.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • Patients may apply cool compresses immediately after treatment. Some patients report a “hot” feeling, which lasts a few hours to a few days.
    • Cool compresses- (gauze soaked in 2 tsp white vinegar per 1 qt water…keep this mixture in the refrigerator) apply for 10 minutes 3-5 times a day.
  • Patients can gently wash the area with cool water 3 times a day, starting the morning after your treatment. Then immediately apply ointment for at least 1 week.
  • Patients should apply an occlusive ointment (in the Alastin kit) or Aquaphor (if you didn’t purchase Alastin kit) to prevent direct contact between the treated skin and the air during the healing process. The use of occlusive ointment improves patient comfort, and reduces the sensation of pain and burning by preventing air from contacting the treated region.
  • Patients should not “pick at” or aggressively scrub the skin. Allow the skin to gently exfoliate during the washing process.
  • Sleeping with head elevated on a few pillows (head above heart) the first few nights post treatment can help minimize swelling.
  • Take antihistamines (Claritin, zyrtec, allegra, benadryl) or add a couple of drops of olive oil for itching.
  • Wear a protective hat or visor for the first 6 weeks while outdoors.
  • Avoid dirty, dusty environments, painting, hairsprays, perfumes while skin is healing
  • Avoid mechanical exfoliation for 4 weeks.
  • Patients may start using Oxygenetix (mineral makeup) 1 week after the treatment or after skin is healed.

Long-term care (protect your investment):

  • Retinoids are safe to use starting 2 weeks after the procedure; begin twice weekly, then increase frequency as tolerated.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and sunbathing.
  • Start sunblock application once skin has started to scab (recommended Elta MD) apply 30 minutes before exposure (even just to go to work); reapply every 1-2 hours, as all sunblock is good for only 80 minutes.
  • Avoid spray-on tans, hair dyes (including brow tints) while dots are still present from the laser, as the dye will make the dots more visible.
  • You may have another procedure as soon as 6 months, which is great for deep wrinkles or acne scars. The healing time will be shorter for the subsequent treatments, despite lasering deeper, because you have collagen built from the first treatment.

Words cannot express how thankful and appreciative I am to have found you. I am deeply grateful for you, for your generosity and caring nature as pertaining to my medical condition. As you know, I was apprehensive about having further surgery, but you are and have been reassuring and confident in the type of procedure you would perform in order to fix my eyelid from the beginning. The fact that you are not pushy and gave me the time and space to make the decision on my own allowed me to prepare myself mentally and emotionally, that really made a difference. Besides from that, your continuous generosity made me confident that you were the right doctor for the task at hand. You will never know how appreciative I am of that. I would also like to let you know how pleased I am with the results of the surgery. I have not felt this comfortable in years. My parents are also very grateful since this was my 14th surgery. You have a true gift. Thank you again for your patience, time, concern, and overall care. I pray that God continues to give you strength to help people who truly need life-changing medical procedures.

Dr. Parsa is an amazing doctor. Warm and very caring. I had my eyes done a couple years ago and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Parsa likes to take the conservative approach which I greatly appreciate in a doctor when it comes to cosmetic surgery. I also go to Dr. Parsa for Botox and he always knows just the right amount. The staff in Dr. Parsa's office are all terrific!
